A Very Viennese Afternoon Tea
With a plethora of online reviews and articles titled ‘The Best Afternoon Tea in London’, you would be forgiven for thinking the traditional high tea with its fruit scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream reigns supreme. And yet, have you ever tried the traditional Viennese alternative? If not, it’s a Delaunay specialty with a fervent following, and is served from 3-6pm every day of the week.
If you haven’t tried it yet, The Delaunay’s Viennese Afternoon Tea offers assorted sandwiches and savouries, but rather than the traditional fruit scones, jam and clotted cream, the restaurant’s freshly baked poppy seed Gugelhupf with apricot jam and whipped cream are offered instead. Also included are a selection of classic Viennese cakes (think Sachertorte, Battenberg and Linzer Torte) and a choice of teas or coffee.
Referred to as “Best for: a Euro-twist” by The Telegraph, it is also considered one of the most reasonably priced afternoon teas around, at £19.75 per person.
Those wanting a lighter or a more celebratory alternative, can choose from the Cream Tea at £9.50 per person or indeed the Champagne Tea at £29.75 per person.
And, for a particularly special occasion, The Delaunay also offers the option of enjoying its Afternoon Tea – Viennese or otherwise – in the Private Dining Room.
Reservations are advised, but a number of tables are always kept available for ‘walk-ins’ on the day.
